5 Reasons We’re a Whole New Horseshoe

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, we’re A Whole New Horseshoe! If you experienced Horseshoe last year, you’re aware of our new high speed 6 person chairlift, getting you to the top of the hill in half the time. If you haven’t visited us in a while, you’re certainly in for a treat. Big changes have been happening at the resort and we couldn’t be more excited! Sometimes change can be scary, but in our case, we think you’ll love it.

Improved Snowmaking

Lake Horseshoe opened earlier this summer and has been a hit with guests of all ages! Not only does it provide tons of summer fun, it also plays a huge role in our winter snowmaking abilities.

The new man-made lake sits at the base of the ski hills and holds 12 million gallons of water! That’s a lot of extra water for us to make snow with. In fact, it actually doubles our snowmaking capacity! This means that we will be able to open our hills earlier, and if Mother Nature hits us with a warm spell part way through the season, we shouldn’t have to shut down in order to make more snow.

Of course, it wouldn’t make much sense to add this extra water source and not upgrade the underground pipe system. The crew has been working hard at replacing the pipes, which isn’t an easy task. The pipes are integral to the resort’s snowmaking abilities, so these improvements will go a long way in adding extra value to our snowmaking process.

While we are certainly enjoying this beautiful summer weather, we can’t help counting down the days to colder temperatures!

Improved Snow Grooming

The resort is excited to bring on a new fleet of snow groomers this season.  Our hills and trails rely on the snow groomers to work their magic and deliver the best of the best to our guests!  Besides looking shiny and new, the upgraded groomers will leave a better finish and will provide more power, which ultimately results in improved time efficiency and fuel savings.

“Having new equipment that not only improves the quality of the trails, but also time efficiency, gives us peace of mind that we will be able to do our job to the best of our ability.” ~ Matt Konings, Manager of Terrain Park and Grooming

Our Snow Tubing Hill is Expanding!

We have some exciting news to share! We’re adding an extra 1200ft to our snow tubing hill. That’s DOUBLE the length, making our hill the longest in Ontario! We will now have not one, but TWO exhilarating drops to fly down. If you haven’t been snow tubing before, you will definitely want to give it a try this winter!

Last season, BlogTO included our hill in their list of the 7 Amazing Hills for Snow Tubing near Toronto.  We were honoured to be mentioned and can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of our new expansion.

Snow tubing is a popular all thrill, no skill winter activity that’s fun for all ages. Grab your family and friends and we’ll see you at the top of the hill this winter!

Kids Korral has a New Name!

Introducing Camp Horseshoe! The program, formerly known as Kids Korral, has always been near and dear to many hearts here at the resort. Not familiar with what’s offered? No problem. Let us tell you all about it!

During the winter, kids can take part in fun filled activities like snow tubing, snowshoeing and arts and crafts, with an optional ski  or snowboard lesson in the afternoon.  Over the summer months, the camp offers full day and overnight experiences, with lots of fun activities for all to enjoy!

Parents can drop their kids off at Camp Horseshoe and leave knowing that not only will their kids be safely monitored, they will also be trying new things, making new friends, developing new skills, and learning important life lessons such as teamwork, commitment, patience, and much more. It’s a rewarding experience that we are proud to be a part of!
