Snowmaking Improvements

The 2019 winter season will see 4x the snowmaking with new snow guns being added to the existing fleet and access to even more water from Lake Horseshoe. The new low energy, high temperature fixed placed snow guns will have a permanent home on Steeplechase, a black diamond run located beside the Outlaw Terrain Park. The new snow guns will provide high density coverage, with each gun producing 80 gallons of snow per minute, which equals one foot acre of snow every three and a half hours.

In the summer of 2017, a man-made lake was added to the resort property. Lake Horseshoe features swimming, a sandy beach, waterfront activities and a wakeboard cable park. While Lake Horseshoe offers guests and the local community lots of fun over the summer months, it also plays an integral role in the resort’s snowmaking operation. Located at the base of the ski hill, Lake Horseshoe holds 9 million gallons of water, which is used to produce man-made snow for ski and snowboard season. A 2500ft underground snowmaking pipe system was also installed, allowing the water to be pumped out of the lake and into the snow guns.

The resort purchased a new fleet of snow groomers for the 2017/2018 season. The new groomers leave a better finish and provide more power, which ultimately results in improved time efficiency, fuel savings and quality of the trails.

New Quad Chairlift

The High Rider Quad (aka chair 6) located on the far south side of the hill will be replaced with a brand new fixed grip quad chairlift in December 2019. Work on the new chairlift will begin in the spring, so that it will be fully operational for the 2019/2020 season.

Rental Fleet

The resort purchased a brand new fleet of Burton snowboards for the 2017-18 season. New Burton helmets are being added to the roster for the 2018-19 season, as well as new ski poles and a new fleet of Rossignol skis and ski boots.

Snow Tubing

An extra 1,200ft was added to the snow tubing hill for the 2017-18 season, doubling the length of the chutes and making our hill the longest snow tubing hill in Ontario. For the 2018-19 season, we will be doubling the amount of chutes (going from 5 chutes to 10 chutes), making a few of the chutes a little bit steeper and we will also be adding a dedicated kids tubing zone.
