The Performers
HEADLINER: CHUCK BYRN
Comedian Chuck Byrn brings an entertaining look to most any topic and knows how to keep his audience in stitches. Chuck has always been popular at major Canadian festivals and has his own comedy specials on CTV but also has worked as a comedic writer for television. He completed five seasons writing for the CBC show Still Standing and that resulted in a nomination for a Canadian Screen Award. He also was nominated for three separate Canadian Comedy Awards including Best Male Stand Up.
Chuck is likely recognizable from his 60 appearances in television and in commercials. He also played at many bars, colleges and clubs before moving to Toronto where he could be with his family more.
A father of two, Chuck often mixes in parenting stories with hot topics from what he called a self-confessed news junkie. He makes for a great utility comic as he has been in the comedy business for more than 20 years.
MC Shannon Laverty
Shannon Laverty is a veteran stand-up comic hailing from the plains of Saskatchewan. She is a 5-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee and voted top host by Glenn Sumi in NOW Magazine. Shannon has performed across Canada and South Africa. She has also worked in Germany, the Dominican Republic and the US. Laverty was thrilled to work with Dana Carvey and Louis C K. A show she will never forget is Massey Hall in Toronto for New Year’s Eve, working with Robert Klein.
She is currently a featured performer on A Little Sketchy TV (NTD TV). You can also hear her on Sirius XM channels: Just for Laughs Canada. Raw Dog and She’s so funny in the USA. Shannon’s other TV and Radio credits include Laugh out Loud (CBC RADIO), and Winnipeg Comedy Fest. (CBC), Listed (Much More Music), Club 54, The Movie Network’s Pay-Per-View comedy special “Mondo Taboo 2”, She’s So Funny and Funny Girls on WTN, and Comics (CBC) Shannon has also made appearances at numerous Comedy festivals. Winnipeg Comedy Festival, JFL42 YYC festival, Sudbury LOL, Ice Breaker Fest, and the Molson Canadian Toronto Comedy Festival.
Laverty’s on-stage persona is proud to be provocative. Her come-hither attitude will draw you in and her flirtatious delivery has been embraced by all.
Featuring Cam Phoenix
Before becoming a staple of the Toronto comedy scene, Cameron Phoenix spent time honing his craft in Montreal and the UK, winning the prestigious King Gong Competition at the Comedy Store. He has done the Edinburgh Fringe multiple years in a row as well as Just For Laughs (Both Montreal and Toronto). He currently produces The Gong Show at the Comedy Bar and is one-half of the successful Twitch stream Little Dinky News. Cameron was a finalist in the JFL Stand-Up and Pitch program. He has opened for Colin Mochrie numerous times and will be recording with JFL Originals as part of JFL Toronto 2023.
