At Horseshoe Valley Resort, we’re deeply connected to nature—and we know how important it is to protect the environment we call home. We are proudly committed to environmental leadership, climate advocacy, and long-term sustainability. From our snowmaking systems to our food services, we are constantly evolving to reduce our footprint and be part of a better future for the tourism industry in Ontario and beyond.

Our Commitment: The Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge

Horseshoe Valley Resort proudly signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge, demonstrating our commitment to continuously improving our sustainability performance through to the year 2030.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization defines sustainable tourism as:

“Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social, and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities.”

Our Initiatives

In alignment with this pledge, we are committed improving our performance by working toward enacting these initiatives.

🌱 Environmental Stewardship & Guest Engagement

• Sustainability education and training for all staff to increase awareness and understanding.

• Interpretive signage around the resort trails and natural spaces to encourage environmental awareness.

• Staff clean-up days to care for our local scenic vistas

♻️ Reducing Waste & Carbon Emissions

• Transition to bulk purchasing for in-room amenities and back-of-house supplies to reduce packaging waste and emissions.

• Digital, paperless guest experiences for check-ins, waivers and internal communications.

• LED lighting upgrades across lifts, buildings, and path networks to reduce energy use.

• Installation of 6 EV charging stations on site for guest and staff use.

• Updating resort vehicles and machinery when possible to increase efficiency and reduce emissions.

🏔️ Supporting the Local Economy & Community

• 80–100% of food & beverage ingredients and operational supplies locally and seasonally to support local producers.

• Partnership with local businesses and causes to promote environmental stewardship and conservation efforts.

• Collaborative relationships with Indigenous and local leaders to protect the land and recognize cultural importance.

💧Smart Resource Use

• Water-saving technologies implemented in resort facilities.

• Continued investment in efficient snowmaking equipment to reduce water and energy use.

• Landscape restoration projects to promote biodiversity.

We measure and transparently report on our progress annually, adapting our goals to achieve meaningful environmental improvements.

Protect Our Winters: Advocacy Through Action

Proud Member of the POW Resort Alliance

Horseshoe Valley Resort is a proud member of the POW (Protect Our Winters) Resort Alliance, joining resorts across Canada in a mission to defend winter and drive climate action.

We rely on winter to deliver the unforgettable snow-filled experiences our guests love—from skiing and snowboarding to cross-country trails, tubing, snowshoeing, and fat biking. We recognize that the threat of climate change to the ski industry is serious and real. While we’re fortunate to have awesome snowfall during this winter season, let’s keep it going and protect winter fun for years to come.

As a POW Resort Alliance Member, We Pledge To:

• Advocate for climate protection.

• Support POW’s mission to turn outdoor enthusiasts into effective climate advocates.

POW Resort Alliance members receive support from POW to help them commit to climate action in various ways. By taking steps like helping build the POW community through brand awareness and membership drives, educating their staff on the threat of climate change to the ski industry, hosting awareness and fundraising events and implementing strategies to reduce their carbon footprint- these operations are taking action that showcases environmental leadership and a commitment to climate advocacy.
