Ready to take your running off the pavement and into the woods? Our 5 Week Learn to Trail Run Clinic is designed to help you feel strong, confident, and prepared on real trails, whether you are training for the Horseshoe Valley Hustle or just looking to try something new.

This clinic blends simple, practical learning with guided trail runs at Horseshoe Valley Resort, giving you the skills and experience to tackle hills, terrain, and distance with confidence. Each session starts with a short in room chat on a key topic, followed by a guided run where you put it into action right away.

No pressure. No intimidation. Just supportive coaching, fresh air, and progress you can feel.

What You’ll Learn

Each week focuses on a core skill to help you run smarter and stronger on the trails and ends with a guided trail run!

Intro to trail running

Movement Foundations (difference between road vs trail running, how to tackle hills and proper footing)

Week 2 | Tuesday, September 22 | 6:00–7:30PM

Building your pace: Training

How to structure your own training.

Week 3 | Tuesday, September 29 | 6:00–7:30PM

Strength training and injury prevention for runners (why runners get injured and how to prevent it)

Learn how strength training can support and improve your running)

Week 4 | Tuesday, October 6 | 6:00–7:30PM

Nutrition for runners (fueling for training)

Performance and hydration

Week 5 | Tuesday, October 13 | 6:00–7:30PM

Race Strategy and mental prep (putting it all together so you can run your best race)

Focused on debunking common myths regarding the relationship between running and strength training. The presentation aims to show how runners can safely and effectively integrate strength training and mobility into their routines to improve their performance and durability. A component of this presentation will be an interactive gym session; come prepared to move. The session is led by Courtney, owner of Horseshoe Valley Fitness and an experienced track athlete and coach, and Michelle, founder of MJ Pilates and marathon runner with a background in rehabilitation and body mechanics.

Who This Clinic Is For

 Road runners interested in transitioning into trail running
Beginners or newer runners wanting to build fitness, endurance, and confidence
Anyone preparing for the Horseshoe Valley Hustle, whether targeting the 5KM or 10KM distance
Runners should have a foundation and be able to run about 3KM


Practical Prep

Trail running shoes are recommended. Road shoes work if trails are dry

Dress in layers suited for the weather

Bring water or a small hydration pack

Snacks are optional, especially if coming straight from work

Seasonal extras like a headlamp, sunscreen, or bug spray if needed
