3 Ways to Still Après if You Don’t Ski!
Après ski is a magical moment when you warm up with a much deserved drink surrounded by new and old friends discussing the day on the slopes.
Downhill skiing and snowboarding isn’t for everyone. Sometimes you just can’t shake that fear of heights, or handle the speed you get as you come barreling down the hill. That doesn’t mean you don’t deserve the fun either. If you walk into the local restaurant or bar at a ski hill at 4pm you will notice a sea of snowy toques and rosy cheeks who are sipping on draught beer and snacking on nachos. If you ever thought, skiing is not for me but I want to be a part of THAT, then we have 3 options that give you an ultimate winter experience which also deserve the famous après hour.
Après Fat Biking
If you can ride a bike, you can certainly ride a fat bike! It is just like a regular mountain bike but it has fat tires which are perfect for getting through the snow. People may not know that trails in Ontario are stunning in the winter. The snow covered forest floor and the glistening trees make for a beautiful sight and taking two wheels through the trail give you a great vantage point.
This activity has gone main stream in the last couple of years with more locations opening specific fat biking trails for beginner to advanced riders. Be prepared to get a great workout before hitting the chalet for après hour. More Info
Après Snow Tubing
Snow tubing, otherwise known as all thrill no skill! “Snow tubing is an activity that’s fun for the entire family,” says Horseshoe Resort’s Director of Recreation, Rebekka Wesson. “Sit in your own tube or link together and fly down a chute. It’s one of our most popular winter activities” Wesson adds. The best part is that many places have a tow rope or a magic carpet to take you back to the top without having to walk, that alone makes it 100 times better than tobogganing.
No experience is necessary, come prepared in your winter gear and hold onto your hat while you experience the ultimate thrill. Après snow tubing is the perfect activity if you have a large group of friends or family who are looking to experience something together. After a couple hours on the tube hill you will be ready to hit the chalet! More Info
Après Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is a great low impact activity that burns just as many calories as running, as you are working overtime to lift your feet in the snow, all while building muscle. Many ski hills and provincial parks in Ontario offer snowshoe trails and have many rentals on hand. What better way to end a great workout with the après hour straight ahead! More Info
